#ThrowbackTuesday: What’s in my Hospital Bag

(This will be a short and sweet post!)

There’s not a single list I didn’t look at when deciding what to put in my hospital bag! In the end I took a few items from one list, some from another and listened to some advice from some recent mums.

So without further ado, here’s what I packed in my bag. And don’t you dare judge me for the discreet underwear aka adult nappies (as opposed to maternity towels) - they were actually my best purchase!!!! After a 14 hour labour and stitches, the last thing you need is a big long uncomfortable maternity pad, I found them to be rather helpful and most importantly COMFORTABLE.

For mum: During labour

Birth plan and medical notes. Although let me be real with you I didn’t even have a birth plan as anything can happen during labour and I didn’t want to psyche myself on a plan that I wouldn’t follow.

An old nightie. Or one you won’t mind throwing away after all the blood. Make sure it’s long enough too!

A hand held fan. Because like me you may have hot and cold flushes and start convulsing in between contractions

Socks and slippers. Because hospital floors are cold and you will want to walk around.

For mum: After labour

Adult nappies!!! I brought one pack to the hospital and had SEVERAL at home for the after bleed. I used Always brand.

Old granny pants and maternity towels. Just in case I didn’t like the adult nappies.

X2 nursing bras. So you can whip out your breasts to feed your new bundle of joy who will be screaming very loudly for food by the way.

Breast pads. You will need these when your milk comes in. Because there will be lots of milk.

Nipple cream. I don’t know what I would have done without this to be completely honest.

A towel. As you will want to have a shower and feel somewhat normal after birth

Flip flops. For when you take your shower X2 fresh nighties. The kind that buttons up so you can breastfeed easily

Going home outfit. Don’t forget you will still look about 6 months pregnant so don’t go buying those size 8 jeans just yet

Toiletries and make up. Again just to feel normal after birth

For baby:

Newborn size 1 nappies

Nappy cream

Baby wipes

Hats

Mittens

Socks

X3 sleepsuits

X3 vests

Going home outfit

Blanket

Baby towel

Muslin squares

Bibs

Car seat for going home

Hope this helps!

Until next time x
